Hello, and welcome to Beyond Two Worlds! My name is Marijane, and I’m a Taiwanese-American adoptee, associate clinical social worker and board-certified music therapist. I have a special interest in connecting to other intercountry adoptees and working with adopted youth and youth in foster care. I have a background in music therapy and working with young children and adolescents with developmental delays, sensory processing disorders and physical disabilities. I began a career in child welfare in 2016 as a social work professional and currently train prospective foster and adoptive families in trauma, TBRI, parenting across cultures and facilitate adopted youth support as well as adoptive parent support groups. I love yoga, music, playing piano and guitar and drawing.
I created this blog in January 2010 when I first began searching for my birth family in Taipei, Taiwan. I had no idea how my search would go when I initially set out. Each day was a mystery, but my search ended in reunion nearly three years later. You can read about my adoption journey in my book, Beyond Two Worlds: A Taiwanese-American Adoptee’s Memoir & Search for Identity.” Writing and telling my story has been extremely healing. It’s been a powerful way to not only share my experiences, but find my voice and connect to others with similar experiences. If you’re visiting for the first time, I recommend starting here then continue reading from oldest to newest post.
I’m thrilled that this blog has evolved into a platform for adoptees to connect and share information, resources and life experiences. All voices are welcome as long as they are respectful. To contact me, please go to the Contacts link located on the Home Page. Thanks for stopping by.
