Hello, and welcome to Beyond Two Worlds. My name is Marijane, and I’m a Taiwanese-American adoptee, MSW and board-certified music therapist. I enjoy writing, educating, and training others on intercountry adoption, adoption trauma, racial identity, and the healing process.
I created this blog in January 2010 when I first began searching for my birthfamily in Taipei, Taiwan. I had no idea how my search would go. After three years of searching and the help of a “search angel,” I reunited with my birthfamily in Taipei. I have spent many years now identifying my own losses as a result of adoption and healing wounds that have caused physical, emotional, and psychological insult. Adoption is a lifelong developmental process, and despite the healing that has occurred in my life, I often feel that I’m just on the edge of sorrow. This sorrow often extends to all members of the adoption constellation, including birth relatives. If you’d like to read about my adoption story, check out my book, Beyond Two Worlds: A Taiwanese-American Adoptee’s Memoir & Search for Identity. If you’re visiting for the first time, I recommend starting here then continue reading from oldest to newest post.
I’m thrilled that this blog has evolved into a platform for adoptees to connect and share information, resources and life experiences. All voices are welcome as long as they are respectful. To contact me, please go to the Contacts link located on the Home Page. Thanks for stopping by.
